Let us also tell you what kind of update has been given by the department.
IT department gave relief
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT), the administrative body of the Income Tax Department, said in a statement that the Board has extended the due date for filing income tax returns for the assessment year 2025-26 from October 31 to December 10, 2025. Apart from this, the last date for submission of audit report for these taxpayers has also been fixed as November 10. According to the Income Tax Act, audit-mandated companies, partnership firms and proprietorship units have to file returns by October 31. Whereas for personal income taxpayers and Hindu Undivided Families (HUF) this deadline is 31st July.
Why was the deadline extended?
The Income Tax Department has taken the decision to extend the deadline keeping in mind the requests of the industry and the obstacles faced in business activities in states affected by natural disasters and floods. Earlier on September 25, the department had extended the deadline for filing the audit report by one month to October 31. Now it has been further extended to 10th November. The last date for filing ITR for individual taxpayers for assessment year 2025-26 was also extended from July 31 to September 16 this year. During this period, more than 7.54 crore returns were filed, out of which 1.28 crore taxpayers paid self-assessment tax.
