IndiGo Flight Disruption Refund News: IndiGo has announced to provide major relief to the passengers affected by flight cancellation on 3-5 December. Passengers will be given travel vouchers worth ₹10,000, which will be apart from the government compensation. Know who will benefit from this..

IndiGo Flight Cancellation Compensation: There is big news for passengers troubled by huge flight cancellations and delays in the country’s largest airline IndiGo. The airline has announced that travel vouchers worth ₹10,000 will be given to passengers whose flights were canceled or who were stranded at the airport for hours on December 3, 4 and 5. This voucher will be given in addition to the compensation fixed by the government (₹5,000 to ₹10,000). This means that the passengers who were most affected will get more relief overall. This decision was taken in a high-level meeting chaired by Aviation Secretary Sameer Sinha.

Which passengers will get compensation and from when?

The process of giving travel vouchers will start from December 26, 2025 i.e. the next day after Christmas. Passengers whose flights were canceled on 3, 4 or 5 December, who were stranded at the airport for several hours, whose journey was affected by IndiGo’s major technical glitch will get this benefit. It was decided in the meeting that passengers who had booked tickets directly from IndiGo’s website would be paid first, as their details were already with the airline. These passengers will start receiving compensation within a week.

What about those booking through travel agents and OTAs?

The government has directed IndiGo to collect the details of passengers booking through travel agents and online travel agencies (OTAs) and make payments directly into their accounts. DGCA will monitor this entire process and the Civil Aviation Ministry will keep an eye on the complaints through Air Seva portal.

MakeMyTrip already gave big refund

According to reports, MakeMyTrip has so far given refund of about ₹10 crore to passengers following the instructions of DGCA, whereas it was yet to receive the full amount from IndiGo. It is clear that the lack of coordination between OTA and the airline became a problem for the passengers.

Indigo admitted its mistake, will seek help from experts

IndiGo Chairman Vikram Singh Mehta has said that the airline’s board will involve external technical experts to find out why such a major operational failure occurred. The company claims that the system will be strengthened to ensure that such a situation does not happen again in future. Indigo has clarified that all routes have been fully connected since December 8 and operations are completely stable since December 9. At present, flight operations are going on normally.
