The Indian Railways is preparing to run a direct Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar. Right now this train starts from Katra, but it will be operated from Jammu as soon as the flood -damaged track is repaired and safety approval. According to media reports, Jammu’s Divisional Railway Manager Vivek Kumar said that the track caused a big loss due to recent floods and heavy rains, due to which this work is going on late.

Vivek Kumar said that the tracks have suffered heavy losses due to floods and rains. So there was a delay, but soon the people of Jammu will start getting this facility. The repair is going on fast and the service will start as soon as the final inspection is completed.

Will travel time

Now when it starts from Jammu, this train will run daily and the journey between the two cities will be completed in even more time. According to railway officials, this facility will prove to be very helpful for the pilgrims, students, traders and tourists of Vaishno Devi.

The Jammu-Srinagar rail link is counted among the world’s most difficult railway projects. It includes Chenab Bridge, which is the highest rail bridge in the world, and Anjikhad Bridge, which is India’s first cable-station rail bridge. Apart from this, more than two dozen tunnels take the train through a difficult Himalayan area.

Officials have not announced the formal beginning date of this service. Railways say that operations will start only after the repair of the track and security certification. This project is expected to give a big boost to regional connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir.
