In the Kisan Sammelan to be held in Barmer on August 11, Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma will distribute crop insurance claim worth Rs 1200 crore to 27 lakh farmers. What is the Prime Minister’s Crop Insurance Scheme and how does it work?
The aim of the Pradhan Mantri Crop Insurance Scheme (PMFBY) is to protect farmers from crop damage caused by natural disasters such as drought, overflow, floods, and insect infections. Under the scheme, farmers insure their crops and the insurance company compensation directly in the account of the farmers if the crop is damaged. Last year, 1.18 lakh farmers had registered in the scheme in the Kharif season.
17 thousand farmers of Barmer district will get direct benefit
In Barmer district, about 17 thousand farmers will be paid a total of Rs 133.31 crore under this scheme. This will improve the economic condition of farmers and they will be able to continue their agricultural works without any financial obstacle.

Increasing interest in insurance scheme among farmers
Farmers’ interest in insurance scheme is continuously increasing. In the year 2024, 1.14 lakh farmers insured for kharif crops, compared to 1.42 lakhs last year. Farmers believe that due to timely compensation, they increase confidence, so that they are motivated to insure every season.
Grand Kisan Conference: Participation of 30 thousand farmers
To make this program a success, the government has invited 30 thousand farmers. 280 buses have been arranged, which will take farmers from different villages to the conference site. Along with the Chief Minister, senior officials of Agriculture Department and Administration will also be present in this program.

Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, while addressing the farmers, will emphasize technical reforms in agriculture, better means of irrigation and benefits of crop insurance scheme. They will appeal to the farmers to join this scheme in the upcoming season so that their economic security can be ensured during natural disasters.
