PM Modi-LED Union Cabinet approved 4 new SEMICONDUCTOR Manufacturing Projects under India Semiconductor Mission. Investment of Rs 4,600 Crore will strengthen Defense, EV, AI and Consumer Electronics sector.
Modi Cabinet Semiconductor Approval: 4 new semiconductor manufacturing projects were approved under the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM) at the Union Cabinet meeting chaired by PM Narendra Modi on Tuesday. This approval will give a new momentum to India’s semiconductor ecosystem which includes the country’s first commercial compound fabrication and advance glass-based substrate semiconductor packaging units.
According to the government, these projects will help meet the increasing chip demand in sectors such as telecom, automotive, data center, consumer electronics and industrial electronics. This step will make a big contribution towards the self -sufficient India mission. The government said that these decisions will not only make India’s semiconductor sector self -sufficient but will also strengthen the global supply chain of Made in India chips in areas like Defense, EV, AI, Consumer Electronics.
Investing in semiconductor projects and how much employment will be available
There will be an investment of about Rs 4600 crore under four proposals by semiconductor projects, making direct employment for 2,034 skilled professionals and indirect employment opportunities in the electronics manufacturing sector. With these new projects, so far the total number of projects approved under ISM has increased to 10, of which Rs 1.60 lakh crore is being invested in 6 states.
