Big boost to auto sector? Mahindra & Mahindra, Bajaj Auto, Hyundai Motor India, Toyota Kirloskar see record sales, GST 2.0 or festivals, what’s behind it?

India’s auto sector saw a strong growth in September 2025 after recent GST rate cuts and before the festive season. All major segments like passenger vehicles, two-wheelers, tractors, and commercial vehicles posted healthy year-on-year sales gains.

The first half of the month saw muted retail activity due to a slower pre-festive period and the GST cut’s effective date. After the effective date of GST reforms demand picked up from September 22 onwards. Manufacturers like Mahindra and Bajaj Auto, Toyota Kirloskar, Hyundai Motor reported strong sales momentum, supported by improved customer sentiment and festive buying.

Toyota Kirloskar Motor Sales

Toyota Kirloskar Motor on Wednesday said its sales increased 16 per cent year-on-year to 31,091 units in September.

The company’s wholesale to dealers in the domestic market stood at 27,089 units last month, while exports were 4,002 units. In September 2024, the automaker sold a total of 26,847 units.

Hyundai Motor India Sales

Hyundai Motor India on Wednesday reported a 10 per cent year-on-year increase in total sales to 70,347 units in September.

The company sold a total of 64,201 units in September 2024, the South Korean automaker said in a statement.

Domestic dispatch of vehicles to dealers saw a marginal increase to 51,547 units last month from 51,101 units in the year-ago period, it added.

Last month, its exports increased to 18,800 units compared to 13,100 units a year ago.

Mahindra & Mahindra Sales

Mahindra & Mahindra on Wednesday reported a 16 per cent year-on-year increase in overall automobile sales to 1,00,298 units in September.

In the passenger vehicles segment, the company said its utility vehicles dispatch to dealers surged 10 per cent year-on-year to 56,233 units in the domestic market last month, as against 51,062 units in the year-ago period.

Exports witnessed a rise of 43 per cent on-year to 4,320 units in September, as against 3,020 units a year ago, the Mumbai-based automaker said in a statement.

Bajaj Auto Sales

Bajaj Auto on Wednesday reported a 9 per cent year-on-year growth in total sales, including exports, to 5,10,504 units in September.

The Pune-based automobile firm had posted total sales of 4,69,531 vehicles in September 2024, Bajaj Auto said in a regulatory filing.

Total domestic sales, including commercial vehicles, stood at 3,25,252 units last month, as compared to 3,11,887 units in the year-ago period, a growth of 4 per cent.
