Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA) has received Level-5 certification from the Airport Carbon Accreditation Programme, which is the highest and top category accreditation that any airport can receive. Only 30 airports across the world, including Mumbai Airports, have received Level-5 status, which have shown high level performance in advanced decarbonization. Only 7 airports in the Asia-Pacific region and only 4 in India are included in this list.

AAHL holds 74% stake and is India’s largest private airport operator. CSMIA is already the first airport in India and the third in the world to receive Level-5 accreditation for Airport Customer Experience. MIAL spokesperson said, ‘This achievement shows that CSMIA is among those airports in the world that bring innovation and sustainability together. How Mumbai Airport reduced emissions by 98%?

The airport said it has reduced Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by more than 98% by FY2022. This means that the airport’s own operations have become almost completely carbon-free. Since 2022, the airport has taken several transformative steps, including use of 100% renewable electricity, 40% higher energy efficiency in FY2025 compared to FY2022, LED lighting, EC fans, automation, high-efficiency AC systems, conversion of entire ground floor to electric vehicles, eco-friendly fire system, low-GWP Refrigerants and the complete transition of all ICE vehicles to EVs are included. Preparations are also underway to reduce Scope-3 emissions through technology and structural changes.
