Decades later, the script of Bhooth Bangla has reunited them. While Bhool Bhulaiyaa, the 2007 psychological thriller, is deeply embedded in pop culture, this horror-comedy promises to be a diverse cinematic experience. Priyadarshan’s skill to direct a comedy scene and Akshay’s ability to grasp his vision make them a much-sought-after pair. The trailer of Bhooth Bangla released today, and it has interesting moments to take back home.

Meta references in Bhooth Bangla trailer

Priyadarshan, who has written Bhooth Bangla with Rohan Shankar and Abilash Nair, weaves references from his past movies. With Rajpal Yadav by his side, the jokes cannot fall flat. In the trailer of Bhooth Bangla, Akshay, who visits his ancestral bungalow in Mangalpur, invites trouble by unlocking the terror of Vadhasur, a demon that does not let people marry in the quiet and ghostly town. While discussion about the curse continues, his sister, played by Mithila Palkar, gets scared. Adding a nostalgic touch to the scene, Akshay says, ” Behen Dar Gayi,” which is his famous dialogue from Bhagam Bhag.

Bhool Bhulaiyaa and Bhooth Bangla similarities

That’s not all,  tickles the funnybone with his iconic Chup Chup Ke dialogue, “Hum Koi Mandir Ka Ghanta Hai Jo Koi Bhi Aake Baja Ke Chala Jata Hai.” The hilarious dialogue is now a famous meme. Besides the resemblance to Bhool Bhulaiyaa, including the aesthetics of the same palace, references to Akshay, Paresh Rawal and Suniel Shetty’s cult classic Hera Pheri caught attention.

Bhooth Bangla follows the story of Arjun (Akshay Kumar), who visits his ancestral bungalow in Mangalpur. Despite being warned not to stay there, he remains adamant about his decision. He wants to get married to his ladylove (Wamiqa Gabbi). She is intrigued by the village’s traditions, beliefs and standard of living. However, the curse of Vadhusur will not let them tie the knot. Produced by Balaji Motion Pictures, in association with Cape of Good Films, Bhooth Bangla is a Hindi theatrical release. The film is scheduled for April 17. The makers have announced   for the horror-comedy from April 16, 9 PM onwards.
