Khushi Desai clinched the Open Women’s Singles title at the Bharat Open, an Indian Pickleball Association-sanctioned PWR 400 event, held at New Alkapuri in Sevasi, Vadodara, from March 20-22. She defeated Agnimitra Bhattacharya in the final on the third and final day of the tournament to secure the gold medal.
The contest saw both players compete at a high level, but Khushi managed to stay composed during crucial phases to seal the victory. Her performance in the final capped a consistent run through the tournament.
The match featured strong baseline play and controlled rallies, with both finalists looking to dictate the tempo. Agnimitra, a well-known name on the Indian pickleball circuit, showed her experience and kept the pressure on with steady returns. However, Khushi responded strongly in key moments, converting crucial points to gain the advantage.
Khushi’s ability to maintain consistency throughout the match proved decisive. She kept unforced errors to a minimum and used her placement well to keep Agnimitra on the move. Despite the loss, Agnimitra delivered a solid performance and remained competitive till the closing stages of the final.
Both players had an impressive outing at the Bharat Open. Agnimitra added to her medal tally with a gold and a silver at the event, underlining her strong presence across categories. Khushi also enjoyed a successful campaign, securing two medals, including this gold and a silver, highlighting her all-round performance during the tournament.
The Bharat Open attracted top and emerging talent from across the country, making it an important stop on the domestic pickleball calendar. The Open Women’s Singles category, in particular, showcased the growing competitiveness in the sport.
As the tournament enters its last day in Vadodara, performances like these continue to reflect the steady rise of pickleball in India, with players gaining valuable competitive exposure through structured events.
