Story of Bhalchandra Sankashti Chaturthi in Hindi
In ancient times, there was a king named Mayurdhwaj, he was very pious and brave. Everyone was very happy in his kingdom. The king had no children and he was very worried about this. After many measures, King Mayurdhwaj was blessed with a beautiful son. In order to spend some time with his son, the king gave his entire royal duties to his minister Dharampal for some time.

Minister Dharampal also started ruling the kingdom as the representative of the religious king. Later, Minister Dharampal had five sons. When the time came, he also got married. Dharampal’s youngest daughter-in-law was a devotee of Lord Ganesha and she used to observe fast on every Chaturthi. When his mother-in-law saw this, she felt that my daughter-in-law was doing some kind of vashikaran on my son.
The mother-in-law immediately forbade her daughter-in-law from fasting and worshiping on Chaturthi Tithi. The younger daughter-in-law explained a lot to her mother-in-law but she did not agree. Despite her mother-in-law’s refusal, the daughter-in-law kept a fast on Sankashti Chaturthi to please Lord Ganesha and prayed, ‘O Parvati Nandan, do something so that my mother-in-law and husband can awaken faith in you.’
Lord Shri Ganesh heard the call of his devotee and with his magic hid the prince, son of King Mayurdhwaj, somewhere and kept his clothes etc. in the palace of minister Dharampal. King Mayurdhwaj tried hard to find his son but was unsuccessful. When the soldiers saw the prince’s clothes in the palace of minister Dharampal, they told this to the king.
King Mayurdhwaj felt that Minister Dharampal had kidnapped his son out of greed for the kingdom. The king started torturing minister Dharampal. Then his younger daughter-in-law said, ‘My mother-in-law and husband had insulted Lord Shri Ganesh, that is why this trouble has come upon you. ‘
Then Minister Dharampal said to his daughter-in-law, ‘You please Lord Ganesha by fasting and worshipping, so that we can get rid of this trouble. On the request of the daughter-in-law, the entire family worshiped Lord Shri Ganesha, due to which King Mayurdhwaj’s son returned safely. Seeing this, King Ayat was very happy and ordered all his subjects to always observe Chaturthi fast.
