Bhai Dooj story in Hindi (Bhai dooj ki katha)
According to the legend, there was great affection between Yamraj, the god of death, and his sister Yamuna. Once Yamuna requested her brother Yamraj to invite her to her house for food, but Yamraj was unable to go to her house due to his busy schedule.
One day Yamraj suddenly reached his sister Yamuna’s house. Yamuna was very happy to see her brother and she honored Yamraj a lot, performed aarti and served him delicious food.
Pleased with this honour, Yamraj asked Yamuna to ask for a boon. Yamuna wished that the sister who applies Tilak to her brother on this day will not have to fear Yamraj and her brother will have a long life. Yamraj said “Amen” on this statement of Yamuna and from then onwards this festival started.
