Beyers Swanepoel: Major action has been taken against South African all-rounder Bearse Swanepoel. The Lions cricket team of Johannesburg has terminated its contract with him. In fact, in the One-Day Cup final played against Titans at the Wanderers Stadium on March 29, Swanepoel left the field without any injury or illness after the 43rd over of the Titans’ innings. He was going to take a flight to play the county season with Worcestershire County Club of England.
Big action on Bears Swanepoel
Bearse Swanepoel’s absence during this final match was not related to injury or illness, so the Lions were not allowed to field a substitute fielder. The team had to play with 10 players and lost the match by three wickets on the last ball. In such a situation, the Lions team has terminated the contract with Bears Swanepoel a year ago.
Swanepoel did not obtain No Objection Certificate (NOC) from Cricket South Africa (CSA) and his team, due to which Worcestershire did not include him in the team and gave place to another player. Swanepoel had previously played for Kent in 2024, where he completed a decent season with NOC.
Bearse Swanepoel apologized
Swanepoel himself apologized, saying, ‘I loved representing the Pride (Lions) and it will always hold a special place in my heart. I sincerely apologize to the entire Lions family for what happened in the final. I assure that many lessons have been learned from this.
Lions executive Jono Leaf-Wright said, ‘This has been a bad period for all parties, but we have now closed the matter, so that everyone can move forward. At Lions Cricket, we adhere to the highest professional standards and take such matters very seriously.
