Bengaluru temperatures likely to touch 37 degrees Celsius by Sunday, IMD issues heatwave warning

New Delhi: Karnataka has been witnessing a major heatwave in the recent days. Temperatures have been rising across several districts and it is predicted that the state might see a heatwave. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that several parts of north Karnataka have seen temperatures reaching 41 degrees Celsius. In Kalaburagi, temperatures have touched 44-45 degrees Celsius in the past few days. Other places like Raichur, Ballari, and Vijayapura are also facing extreme heat.

Bengaluru sees high temperatures, heatwave

Meanwhile, the state capital, Bengaluru is also not far behind when it comes to rising temperatures. The city recently recorded a high of 36.6 degrees Celsius. On April 17, the city recorded a maximum temperature of 36 degrees Celsius and the minimum hovered around 23-24 degrees Celsius.

For Saturday, the IMD has predicted that maximum temperatures will be around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum should be around 24 degrees Celsius. The day is expected to remain mainly clear, with no clouds or rains predicted. The weekend in fact would remain sunny and maximum temperatures on Sunday, April 19 will also remain around 37 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature however is expected to fall to 23 degrees Celsius on the day.

Earlier the weather department had predicted that the maximum temperatures in Bengaluru would touch 38 degrees Celsius. The weather department has predicted that the hot and dry weather in Bengaluru and other parts of Karnataka is likely to continue in the coming days. Hot winds are expected to continue, especially in the interior regions.

Heatwave conditions in several districts

Meanwhile, the recent data shows that certain parts of the state are already experiencing heatwaves. In Kalaburagi, the maximum temperature reached 42.9 degrees Celsius, while in Raichur it was 42.5 degrees Celsius. In Yadgir and Ballari the maximum temperature was recorded at 42.3 degrees Celsius and 41 degrees Celsius, respectively. Bidar and Vijayapura both recorded a maximum temperature of 41.8 degrees Celsius.

Meanwhile, the administration has issued an advisory for the residents of Bengaluru and other districts in the state, in view of the rising temperatures. They have been asked to avoid stepping out during peak heat hours, stay hydrated and take precautions while going out of their homes. The advisory is mainly for children and the elderly who are more vulnerable and might suffer heatstroke in this weather.
