In Bengaluru, a Rapido bike rider was involved in an altercation with a woman passenger, as captured by CCTV footage. The video reveals that the woman initially struck the rider following what appeared to be a disagreement.
This incident occurred just hours after reports emerged of the driver assaulting the woman.
The driver, who was apprehended by Bengaluru police after the video circulated widely, shared his perspective on the event. He claimed that the woman booked a ride at 9:00 am and was already speaking harshly when he picked her up. He described taking a shortcut through Jayanagar to avoid traffic and reach her destination more quickly.
Driver’s Account of Events
According to the driver, tensions escalated when a car blocked their path, stopping them about 100 meters from her office. The woman questioned his driving skills and education. He explained that he took a shortcut but she continued speaking harshly. At this point, he admitted losing his temper.
“So I got angry and said, ‘Go back to your country,'” he recounted. Despite informing her of the Rs 77 fare, she allegedly continued shouting and hit him with a tiffin box. He maintained that he tried to remain calm for as long as possible.
Escalation of Conflict
The driver claimed that after being struck twice by the woman, he retaliated by hitting her once. He expressed difficulty in communicating due to limited English proficiency and told her to return to her state. After the altercation, she made the payment.
Following this incident, he attempted to report her at a nearby store but couldn’t find the manager. Instead, he explained to someone present that she had raised her hand first without any apparent reason.
Police Investigation
The argument reportedly began over allegations of rash driving by the woman against the driver. Police sources indicated that this confrontation escalated into a heated exchange during which physical assault occurred on both sides.
