Bengaluru ORR Traffic: Service road to remain shut for 45 days; know reason, alternative routes

Bengaluru: The Bengaluru Traffic Police announced that a service lane on the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will remain closed for traffic for 45 days starting October 6. This is because metro station construction work by the Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) is currently in progress. The section between the 9th Main Road Junction and the 5th Main Road Junction will remain closed for 45 days.

Alternative routes

Drivers heading from Ibblur towards Silk Board Junction should take other routes. They can either take the 14th Main Road flyover and follow the main road to reach the 5th Main Road Junction, or can take the smaller, internal roads inside HSR Layout to get to Silk Board and Hosur Main Road.

The Bengaluru Traffic Police urged the commuters to follow the alternative routes to help reduce jams and keep traffic moving smoothly.

Meanwhile, Bengaluru Traffic Police said that traffic situation has improved on some of Bengaluru’s busy roads as the officials have implemented a new traffic plan. Anoop A. Shetty, IPS, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic, West Division), posted a video on X showing how traffic signals have been timed to work together along the stretch from JC Road near Townhall Junction to NR Junction, PS Junction, and Police Corner Junction.

“This setup allows drivers to get green lights one after the other during non-rush hours,” said Shetty. He added that this move is part of the city’s larger plan to reduce traffic jams.

Suggestions to decongest Hebbal-Silk Board route

In another update, the Bengaluru Traffic Police (BTP) has found key traffic bottlenecks between Hebbal and Silk Board and has suggested ways to fix them. These improvements are expected to make travel smoother along the Outer Ring Road (ORR).

Fixing these problem areas could lower traffic by around 20%, said Seemant Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Police, Bengaluru City. A major cause of jams in these places is the poor design of entry and exit points between the main road and the service lanes. “When vehicles leave the main road and enter the service road, they often come in from the right, which blocks traffic. In some spots, vehicles enter and exit at the same place, which causes confusion and jams on both roads,” explained Karthik Reddy, Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic).
