A 70-year-old woman was found murdered in a home invasion in Bengaluru while her wheelchair-bound husband slept next to her. Police have arrested the accused with the help of CCTV. The motive of the murder is said to be robbery of jewelery and money.

A heart-wrenching incident has come to light from Nelamangala on the outskirts of Bengaluru. Here a 70 year old woman was brutally murdered after entering her house. At the time of the incident, her husband, who was on a wheelchair, was sleeping nearby, but she was not even aware of it. The name of the victim woman is Shobha, who lived with her husband Ranganath in Kote Beedi of Hirapur area. The incident happened around 1:03 am, when the accused forcefully entered the house and slit Shobha’s throat.

Accused arrested, suspicion of murder for money

The police have arrested a wholesale shopkeeper named Shivkumar in connection with this murder. The investigators suspect that financial constraints could be a major reason behind this murder. According to police sources, the accused had a loan of around Rs 8 lakh and was not able to repay it. Shobha, who was the daughter of a jeweller, was wearing a lot of gold jewelery at the time of the incident. Officials believe that the accused had his eye on these valuable items and after the murder he also searched the house for cash. The couple had no children and lived alone. Ranganath has been on a wheelchair for the last 15 years due to health problems.

Everything was normal even on the day of the incident. Shobha and her husband had returned home after a morning walk. But this tragic incident happened that very night, when both of them were sleeping.

The doctor who came to give physiotherapy saw the dead body

The murder came to light when a doctor arrived at Ranganath’s house to give him physiotherapy. When the doctor went to the bedroom, he found Shobha dead next to her husband. He immediately informed the police. Police said that when officers reached the spot, Ranganath looked as if he had no idea what had happened.

The accused was caught from CCTV footage

CCTV cameras installed in the neighborhood helped the police a lot. In the footage, a man was seen leaving the area on a motorcycle immediately after the incident. The investigation team scanned the footage of several cameras and traced the registration number of the vehicle. The police reached Shivkumar with information about the scooter’s registration. He was taken into custody and interrogated and later arrested. At present the investigation is going on. Police are trying to find out whether the accused already knew about the financial condition of the family or whether he had conducted a recce of the area before carrying out the attack.
