Bengaluru: A school counsellor in Bengaluru has filed a police complaint alleging sexual harassment of a 15-year-old girl by her mother at home.
However, the student did not corroborate the allegations during statement recording.
On June 27, a counsellor at a private school in north Bengaluru registered a complaint at the RT Nagar police station against the student’s parent. She informed the police that her student had disclosed “sexual harassment” by her mother at their house, prompting the complainant to alert law enforcement.
Following the complaint, the RT Nagar police initiated an FIR under the Prevention of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act. An investigator in the case stated that when they visited the victim’s house to record her statement, the mother denied the allegations.
“She maintained that she had scolded and disciplined her child, as any parent would, over academic performance, but never subjected her to sexual harassment,” the officer informed.
The police also counselled the child and questioned her regarding sexual harassment, but the child offered no statement. Additionally, the child’s sister was questioned about the allegations, and she, too, denied them. The police also questioned the house help, who made no such statement.
For now, the police have halted the case’s progress. Authorities may initiate action under the Juvenile Justice Act for beating the child, if no evidence emerges to support the allegations.
