New Delhi: Actor Mayur Patel was involved in a major road accident late Wednesday night. At around 10 pm, last night, the Sandalwood actor hit at least 4 cars with his vehicle, near the Commando Hospital signal on Old Airport Road in Silicon City, in Bengaluru. According to eyewitnesses, the actor was driving his Fortuner very fast and recklessly and hit multiple vehicles from behind.

Actor hit cars standing at traffic signal

Patel reportedly hit the vehicles, while they were standing at a traffic signal. The severity of the accident can be gauged from the fact that 4 vehicles, including two Swift Dzires and a government car were damaged due to the impact of the crash. The cars were reportedly standing in a row when the actor hit them from behind.

Soon after the accident the Halasuru traffic police rushed to the spot. They took the actor into custody. The traffic police conducted a ‘Drink and Drive’ (DD) test on the actor and found him to be drunk. He was driving under the influence of alcohol. Investigators also found that the insurance of the car which Patel was driving had also lapsed.

The police have now seized the Fortuner car involved in the accident and registered a complaint in the matter at the Halasuru traffic station.

Mayur Patel tried to flee after accident: Eyewitness

According to Srinivas, one of the drivers of the car which was hit by the actor’s Fortuner, Patel tried to run away following the accident. Srinivas was in tears after the actor’s car hit his vehicle from behind.

Asianet News quoted Srinivas as saying,”I had bought this new car just a week ago by mortgaging my wife’s jewelry. I was driving it on hire for a company and making a living. The first EMI is due on February 5. Now, if the car breaks down, how will I repay the loan?”

Meanwhile, eyewitnesses, including Srinivas recalled that Patel got out of his car immediately after it hit the vehicles standing at the traffic signal. He tried to flee, saying, “I am a film actor Mayur Patel, I will fix everything in the morning.”

But the driver insisted that Patel must make a settlement and pay for the damages caused to his car, immediately. He said that just as this conversation was on, the police arrived at the spot and took Patel away. He was however worried whether the actor who was drunk would get appropriate punishment and would he cover the cost for the damages he had caused to the vehicles.
