Bengaluru: 19-year-old Foxconn employee booked for killing newborn in factory restroom

Bengaluru: A 19-year-old employee at the Foxconn iPhone assembly plant in Bengaluru allegedly killed her newborn shortly after giving birth in a factory restroom, reportedly driven by fear of social stigma.

The employee, identified as Renuka, reportedly experienced a sudden birth pang while using the restroom at the iPhone manufacturing site, However, the incident quickly turned from a medical crisis to a crime.

Restroom discovery sparks homicide inquiry

According to the officials, a colleague entered the restroom shortly after the incident, noticed the remains of a newborn infant in a bag and informed the police.

The police arrived at the crime scene and conducted an inspection. The preliminary report suggested the baby’s throat was slit before being placed in the bag.

The local police have officially registered a case and are conducting a thorough inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the birth and the subsequent violence.

Medical custody and legal proceedings

Investigators believe the suspect acted out of an intense fear of the social stigma and “shame” often associated with unwed pregnancies in the region.

Renuka was immediately transported to a local hospital, where she remains under medical supervision and police custody. The investigation continues.
