West Bengal Motion Picture Artists Forum confirmed this news on 8 December. According to media reports, Kalyan Chatterjee was admitted to MR Bangur Super Specialty Hospital, where he was undergoing treatment for typhoid and other age-related health problems. Despite constant care, he breathed his last late night on 7th December, leaving the film industry and fans in deep mourning.

Kalyan had worked in more than 400 films

Artists Forum said in a statement, ‘One of our most valuable members, Kalyan ji has left us. We are deeply shocked. May God grant peace to his soul. Kalyan Chatterjee has worked in more than 400 films in his career. Known for his impressive screen presence, he has become one of the most credible character actors of Bengali cinema. His journey started in the year 1968 with Aponjon and since then, he has won the hearts of people with his powerful acting skills.

Apart from Bengali, Kalyan Chatterjee had worked in Hindi films.

Kalyan Chatterjee gave memorable performances in films like ‘Dhanya Meye’, ‘Dui Prithibi’, ‘Sabuj Dwiper Raja’ and ‘Baishe Shrabon’. Chatterjee also had the honor of working with the great director Satyajit Ray in ‘Pratidwandi’. Apart from Bengali cinema, he also worked in Hindi films, including Sujoy Ghosh’s popular thriller ‘Kahaani’.
