She plays a fierce role in Arun Matheswaran’s latest dark action film DC, making her the talking point among netizens and film buffs. However, DC is not her first Tamil film. Wamiqa Gabbi’s Range In Tamil Cinema: From Maalai Nerathu Mayakkam To DC

In the film, Manoja is an independent-minded young woman who finds herself pushed into an arranged marriage with a conservative man because of family pressure. The story shows the struggles of the mismatched couple as they navigate their relationship and gradually understand each other. The film had an interesting journey before reaching the big screen. It was originally planned by Selvaraghavan but was later shelved. His wife, Gitanjali Selvaraghavan, eventually took over as director and completed the film, marking her directorial debut.

DC marks Wamiqa Gabbi’s return to Tamil cinema after her appearance in Thiagarajan Kumararaja’s segment Ninaivo Oru Paravai from the 2023 anthology Modern Love Chennai.

Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the action thriller stars Lokesh Kanagaraj in his first lead role, alongside Wamiqa Gabbi and Sanjana Krishnamoorthy. Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, a woman caught in a violent underworld whose life becomes intertwined with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s character, Devadas. Loosely inspired by Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay’s Devdas, the film presents a gritty and unconventional take on the story.

DC marks Lokesh Kanagaraj’s debut in a lead role. Known for directing films such as Kaithi (2019), Vikram (2022), Leo (2023) and Coolie (2025) he had previously appeared only in cameo roles. His performance in DC has received a mixed response from fans. Anirudh Ravichander has scored the music for DC, marking his first collaboration with director Arun Matheswaran. The technical team features cinematographer Mukesh G, editor GK Prasanna and art director Kannan S, with PC Stunts overseeing the action sequences.

The film is presented by Kalanithi Maran under the Sun Pictures banner, which is also backing the project.
