Ingredients to make Baklava

  • for dough
  • 2 cups flour
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • ½ tsp baking powder
  • Milk as required (to knead tight dough)
  • for slurry
  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 2 tbsp flour or corn flour
  • for syrup
  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup water
  • a pinch of saffron
  • ½ tsp lemon juice
  • ½ tsp rose water
  • for topping
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 tablespoon pistachios (grated or chopped)
  • 1 tablespoon almonds
  • 1 tablespoon cashew nuts

How to make Baklava (Baklava Recipe Step by Step)

1. Prepare the syrup

  • Add sugar, water and saffron in a pan and boil.
  • Cook on low flame until it becomes a string syrup.
  • Now add rose water and lemon juice to it and turn off the gas.

2. Prepare the dough

  • Mix flour, ghee and baking powder.
  • Add milk and knead tight dough.
  • Pack it in polythene and let it rest for 15-20 minutes.

3. Make Slurry

Prepare a smooth slurry by mixing ghee and corn flour (or maida) in a bowl.

4. Layering and Rolling the Baklava

  • Make small balls of dough.
  • Roll each ball as thin as possible.

  • Roll it around a round stick (such as a pipe or thin cylinder).
