India won its third T20 World Cup title by defeating New Zealand by 96 runs in a thrilling final held at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Batting first, India scored 255 runs for 5 wickets, which is a record score in the World Cup final. The foundation of the Indian innings was laid by Sanju Samson’s stormy performance. He scored 89 runs in just 46 balls with the help of 5 sixes and 8 fours and was adjudged ‘Player of the Tournament’. Openers Abhishek Sharma (52) and Ishan Kishan (54) also scored brilliant half-centuries. In the last overs, Shivam Dubey’s explosive batting (26* runs in 8 balls) took India’s score beyond 250.

In reply, the New Zealand team could not stand against the Indian bowling and were all out for 159 runs in 19 overs. Jasprit Bumrah took four wickets for India and was adjudged ‘Player of the Match’. Akshar Patel also dashed New Zealand’s hopes by taking three wickets. With this victory, India has become the first team to defend the T20 World Cup title. Besides, it also achieved the distinction of being the first country to win the World Cup on its soil.
