Asia Cup 2025: The BCCI is all set to select and reveal India’s team for the Asia Cup 2025 on August 19. As per a Times of India report, India’s T20I skipper Suryakumar Yadav would be attending this meeting from the Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru.
After this, Ajit Agarkar would be holding a press conference, as has been the tradition in his term. This would be an important selection for the Men in Blue as it will give some clarity as to what the selectors and the skipper’s plans are for the T20 World Cup next year.
“Yes, the team for the Asia Cup will be picked on Aug 19 in Mumbai. The selection committee meeting will be followed by a press conference by chief selector, former India pacer Ajit Agarkar,” the BCCI source was quoted as saying to the Times of India.
The Men in Blue have been put in Group A and will lock horns with the UAE during their tournament opener.
Important questions for India’s 2025 Asia Cup squad
There are a lot of questions that have been left unanswered for this team selection, and they will be discussed during this meeting. One of the highlights would be about other format personnel, where players who have performed brilliantly in the longest format and the ODIs, and whether they would be selected in the T20I side.
For instance, India’s Test captain Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and India’s No.4 ODI batter Shreyas Iyer. Speculations are rife that Shubman Gill would be picked as India’s vice-captain and that would demote Axar Patel, who has assisted Suryakumar Yadav since the last few T20I series.
And if Patel is selected as India’s vice-captain again, then it would show the side is happy for him to continue assisting Suryakumar. Other players like Hardik Panya are also in contention.
One of the other things to look out for would be Jasprit Bumrah’s availability. He didn’t just give the fifth Test match against England a miss but was also released from the team early, and that led to rumours of him picking up another injury. Agarkar would be giving an update about his future during the press conference.
