New Delhi: Vaibhav Suryavanshi has delivered some great performances after making a spectacular debut for the Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The 14-year-old, who scored the second-fastest hundred of the league, has been in stellar form during India’s recent U-19 tour of England.
After returning home, Suryavanshi attended a training session with the Rajasthan Royals. He received a call from the BCCI and headed straight to the Excellence Centre in Bengaluru.
According to a MyKhel report, the youngster will undergo a special training program, which is designed by the BCCI to focus on his technical drills and match-specific scenarios. The young batter might be included in India’s squad for the Australia series.
His childhood coach, Manish Ojha, told Mykhel that the BCCI is looking ahead as the senior players are gradually retiring, and to fill that vacuum, they are preparing the next batch of youngsters. He further added that the special training for Vaibhav is part of that process, and they pick boys one by one to prepare them accordingly for the demands of international cricket.
Ojha also said that Vaibhav has the ability to attack from the very first ball, which is a massive positive in T20 format and ODIs, and everyone has seen that in the IPL, U-19, and Vijay Hazare Trophy.
“But in longer formats, his performance level drops compared to white-ball cricket. The aim is to raise that consistency—if he plays 10 innings, 7-8 should be impactful,” he added.
Rohit, Kohli to retire from ODI format?
According to a Dainik Jagran report, the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia could be the last international assignment for India’s senior players Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. The BCCI has made up its mind to go ahead without the senior duo to prepare for the 2027 ODI World Cup. The board might ask both senior batters to play in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and if they decide against it, the Australia series could be their last.
But a BCCI official told PTI that the board is currently focused on the Asia Cup and next year’s T20 World Cup and would never make such important decisions in a hurry.
