Long seen as the front-runner to succeed Ajit Agarkar as the BCCI men’s top selector, former India wicketkeeper Parthiv Patel has not yet submitted an application for the position.
The deadline to apply is October 14 at 5 p.m. IST. The BCCI began accepting applications for the position on October 6. PTI claims that Patel had not yet applied for it and will not be able to do so until the board extends the deadline. Pragyan Ojha, a selector from the South Zone, is currently acting as the committee’s interim chief selector because he has participated in the most Test matches.
Parthiv Missed The Deadline
“Don’t know if the BCCI would extend the deadline, but Parthiv had not applied till 5 pm on October 14. The situation could change if the deadline is extended or he changes his mind,” a BCCI source told PTI on condition of anonymity.
The new selector will be in charge of selecting India’s sides for Tests, ODIs, and T20Is, spotting up-and-coming talent, and bolstering the bench, according to a statement released by the BCCI on October 6. In addition, the position will entail travelling for matches, attending team meetings, scouting players in both local and international cricket, and providing quarterly performance evaluation reports to the .
Candidates must have participated in at least seven Test matches, thirty first-class matches, or ten ODIs and twenty first-class matches in order to be eligible. Additionally, candidates must have stopped playing cricket at least five years ago. It is anticipated that the replacement will come from the West Zone, where Agarkar was born.
However, unless the BCCI decides to extend the deadline and permit Parthiv to apply, the pool of notable qualifying candidates from the West Zone appears to be small. Currently, it appears that Parthiv would stay with the Gujarat Titans coaching staff and his broadcasting responsibilities instead of joining the senior selection committee.
