BCCI announces India’s home schedule for 2026-27: How many ODIs will Rohit, Kohli play?

New Delhi: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has announced a power-packed home schedule for India’s 2026-27 home season, featuring four visiting teams and 22 international matches in 17 cities.

The blockbuster home season starts on September 27 with the West Indies tour of India comprising three ODIs and five T20Is.

In total, India will play five Tests, nine ODIs and eight T20Is between September 2025 and February 2026.

The biggest battle of the season will be the five-match Test series with Australia. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) between the two fierce rivals will be spread over  January, February and March of 2027.

While the BGT is undoubtedly the main attraction, fans will be eagerly awaiting the ODI legs of the season to witness Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Both superstars have retired from Tests and T20Is and only play the 50-over format in international cricket.

With limited opportunity to watch the two best Indian batters of the modern era, the anticipation surrounding their presence in a series/match is bigger than ever.

How many times will Kohli and Rohit play in India’s 2026-27 home season?

Having last played international cricket in January 2026 in the India vs New Zealand three-match home ODI series, Rohit and Kohli are expected to feature in all nine ODIs this season, barring an injury.

The ODI leg of the 2026-27 season is part of the build-up for the 2027 ODI World Cup in South Africa, Zimbabwe and Namibia.

Ro-Ko will first feature in the three-ODI series against the West Indies in September-October. The three games will be staged in Thiruvananthapuram (September 27), Guwahati (September 30) and New Chandigarh (October 3).

After a month-long gap, Kohli and Rohit will return to action in the three-match series against Sri Lanka with the ODI leg scheduled in Delhi (December 13), Bengaluru (December 16) and Ahmedabad (December 19).

Weeks later, at the start of the year, the batting legends will be in action against Zimbabwe, who will tour India for a bilateral series for the first time since 2002, when Sourav Ganguly was leading India.

The matches will be held in Kolkata (January 3), Hyderabad (January 6) and Mumbai (January 9).
