Karnataka Bus Accident 2025: A horrific collision between a truck and a bus near Hiriyur, Karnataka in the early hours of Thursday turned the lives of passengers into terror. The fire in the bus and the sudden dense fog put the passengers in such a situation that their sleep turned into death in a few seconds. Most of the people sleeping inside the bus suddenly woke up and saw that their bus was on fire. Hemraj said, “We were sleeping. Suddenly something fell on my head, and there was darkness and smoke all around. I immediately pushed my son out of the window, then my wife also jumped. The fire was very strong. People behind the bus were shouting for help, but we had no option but to get out of the bus.”
Was it difficult to escape from the fire?
Three passengers in the sleeper coach escaped serious burns, while 25 others suffered minor injuries. Many people had difficulty breathing due to the sudden dense smoke filling the bus. Many passengers broke windows to get themselves out, but this also resulted in injuries.
Why was the ambulance late?
The surviving passengers said that despite repeated calls to the emergency number, the first ambulance arrived only after about one and a half hours. Two more ambulances were found between 3.40 am and 4 am. “We were shivering in the cold, had burn and fracture injuries, but no help came,” said technician Varun. Manjunath M, who suffered approximately 70% burns, lived in fear and pain while waiting to be taken to the hospital. Many passengers said that firefighters arrived within 20 minutes, but medical help came too late.
How did the local people save their lives?
Local people were the first to reach out to help. Private driver Hrithik Kumar told that he called his friends and along with the fire brigade took out the passengers. When the ambulance arrived, local people were helping the injured to reach Hiriyur and Shira government hospitals.
Did traffic also increase the delay?
Ambulance drivers said that help arrived late due to heavy traffic jam on the highway. After the accident, the movement of vehicles had stopped and the traffic was spread for about 3 kilometers.
