The internet has been discontinued for 48 hours after violence in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan has been arrested. Tauqir had called a protest in support of the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign.

Tauqeer raza arrested: Maulavi and Ittehad-e-Millat Council President Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan was arrested on Saturday. After this, internet services were closed for 48 hours in Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh. Tauqir Raza called for a protest in support of the ‘I Love Muhammad’ campaign. Due to this, there was a violent clash with the police after Friday prayers. The district administration said the Internet has been closed to prevent rumors from spreading.

The Uttar Pradesh government has described the violence as a conspiracy to disturb peace. At the same time, opposition leaders have criticized police action. The BJP has instructed its leaders to avoid public rhetoric on this issue.

Latest updates related to Bareilly violence

1- According to information received from the police, Maulana Tauqir Raza Khan is the main accused of this violence. He has been sent to 14 days judicial custody along with 7 other people. Others arrested have been identified as Sarfaraz, Manifuddin, Azim Ahmed, Mohammad Sharif, Mohammad Aamir, Rehan and Mohammad Sarfaraz.

2- Maulana Tauqir Raza had called for protests even after not getting permission. He was arrested from Faiz Enclave in the early hours of Saturday. He was staying here. Police say they misled the supporters saying that they were going to Delhi.

3- District Magistrate Avinash Singh and SSP Anurag Arya confirmed the arrests. DIG Ajay Kumar Sahni described the violence as a “pre -planned” conspiracy. Section 163 of BNSS was applicable in Bareilly, under which public functions are banned without permission.

4- Earlier on Friday, the protesters gathered outside the Kotwali mosque after Namaz. When the police tried to disperse the crowd, the situation deteriorated and some protesters became violent. Stones started throwing. The police had to use light force to control the situation.

5- The clashes spread to the surrounding areas including Dargah-e-Ala Hazrat and Islamia Ground. The shops of Alamgiriganj, Civil Lines, Bada Bazaar and Bansmandi were temporarily closed.

6- After arrest, internet services in the entire district were closed for 48 hours. The district administration said that this closed rumors are a precautionary step to prevent the spread of rumors and maintain law and order.

7- Based on the video during the violence, the police have detained 36 people for questioning. So far 11 FIRs have been registered. More than 2,000 people have been nominated. In two of these cases, Maulana Tauqir Raza is directly named.

8- Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath said that the government will not tolerate any kind of disturbance in law and order. He said, “Anarchy will not be tolerated. Strict action will be taken against the threat to security or those who attack citizens.”

9- Opposition leaders condemned the action being taken by the government. Asaduddin Owaisi of AIMIM said that this campaign was not a crime. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav condemned police action. The BJP has asked its leaders to avoid the statement without need.

10-The dispute began on 9 September, when the Kanpur police on 4 September filed an FIR against 24 people for allegedly putting a board of ‘I Love Muhammad’ during the Eid-e-Milad-un-Nabi procession. Some Hindu groups objected to this and described it as a deviation from the tradition and the action of deliberate provocation. The issue soon spread to other parts of Uttar Pradesh and states like Uttarakhand and Karnataka, which led to protests and police action.
