The relationship was fixed eight months ago, the engagement in a big hotel, the preparations for the dream wedding and then that day, which broke everything. In Bareilly, the marriage of a girl named Jyoti was fixed with Rishabh, son of Ram Avtaar, resident of Basti. This relationship was confirmed with the consent of both the families, but what happened on the wedding day once again brought to the fore the bitter truth of dowry.
The groom’s party came to Bareilly in the month of May. The engagement took place with great pomp in a big hotel of the city, after which the girl’s side started preparing for the wedding. There was an atmosphere of happiness in the house and no one had any idea that the biggest shock would be received from the house from where the wedding procession would come.
Real face of groom’s side revealed before marriage ceremony
On the wedding day, as soon as the groom arrived with the wedding procession, the atmosphere changed at the gate itself. It is alleged that the groom and his family members demanded additional dowry even before the wedding. It was clearly stated to the bride’s side that they wanted a car and Rs 20 lakh in cash in the night itself.

The bride’s side had welcomed the wedding procession, but the groom started demanding dowry in front of his future father-in-law. Within some time, his family members also came and together they started demanding the Brezza car and Rs 20 lakh in cash. When the girl’s side said that it was impossible to arrange a vehicle at night, the groom’s side started pressurizing them to pay cash, which created a ruckus at the wedding venue.

Allegations of bride’s pain, misbehavior and abuses
Bride Jyoti told that she was waiting for the wedding procession, when as soon as the groom reached the gate, he started demanding dowry from her father. Jyoti alleges that the groom and his family misbehaved with her father and also abused him. He says that the groom’s side wanted a Brezza car and Rs 20 lakh in cash.

The bride’s side claims that Rs 6 to 7 lakh had been given to the groom’s side even before the marriage. Apart from this, gold was also given to the groom and about Rs 15 lakh was spent on the wedding preparations. Despite this, new demands were put forward before the rounds. As soon as information about the uproar was received, the police reached the spot and took the groom Rishabh, his father Ram Avtar and brother-in-law into custody. At present efforts are being made to reach an agreement between the two parties.
Ashutosh Shivam, who has jurisdiction over this entire matter, said that some people have been brought to the police station and interrogated. A case will be registered as soon as the complaint is received from the victim’s side. Bride Jyoti says she wants justice, so that no other girl has to face such humiliation and harassment for dowry.
