New Delhi: Barcelona are advancing to sign forward Marcus Rashford from Manchester United. According to The Athletic report, the Spanish club has made an offer to loan the player for next season with a buy option.
Rashford has already expressed his desire to play for Barcelona, but the deal is not done yet, and talks between all parties are in the final stages. Barcelona manager Hansi Flick has spoken to Rashford and approved his signing.
He last played for Manchester United in the Europa League match against Viktoria Plazen on December 12. The forward was first left out of the squad by head coach Ruben Amorim for the Premier League game against Manchester City.
He then joined Aston Villa on loan from United in the winter transfer window for the remainder of the 2024-25 season and scored 4 goals in 17 appearances for the club. His season ended early due to a hamstring injury.
Rashford ready for new challenge
Rashford said in an interview that he was ready for the new challenge away from United. He was one of the five players who were given extra time to find new clubs. Despite that, Rashford reported back to Carrington on July 8 and trained on an individual basis.
He has netted 138 goals in 436 appearances for the Red Devils since his debut in 2015. Barcelona agreed on personal terms with Spanish forward Nico Williams, but he opted to stay at Athletic Club and signed a new deal until 2035, while Liverpool rejected the club’s offer for Luis Diaz.
Flick was asked about signing a new winger in the summer transfer window, and he said they have talked about it with the club and in the last few matches, they didn’t have a lot of options in that position.
The head coach was also asked about Rashford and Diaz, and Flick said that he doesn’t like talking about players who are not in his team, but they are both fantastic players.
