2010 elections: BJP took lead (Barauli Assembly 2010)
In 2010, BJP’s Rampravesh Rai had won this seat. He got a total of 45,234 votes.
- RJD candidate M. Nematullah got 34,820 votes.
- Rampravesh Rai won by about 10,414 votes and hoisted the BJP flag.
2015 elections: RJD’s return (Barauli Vidhan Sabha 2015)
The 2015 elections were very exciting. This time RJD fielded Nematullah.
- Nematullah got a total of 61,690 votes.
- BJP’s Rampravesh Rai got 61,186 votes.
Note: The voting margin was only 504 votes. In this election, RJD won in a very close contest and made it clear that the people here can change their decision till the last moment.
2020 elections: BJP staged a coup (Barauli Assembly 2020)
The 2020 election was interesting again. This time BJP’s Rampravesh Rai and RJD’s Riyajul Haq alias Raju were face to face.
- Rampravesh Rai (BJP) – 81,956 votes (about 49%)
- Riazul Haq (RJD) – 67,801 votes (about 40%)
Note: Rampravesh Rai won by a huge margin of 14,155 votes, avenging his 2015 defeat.
