15 January 2026: Where will banks remain closed?
Banks will remain closed in Bengaluru, Chennai, Gangtok, Hyderabad and Vijayawada on Thursday, January 15. On this day, festivals like Uttarayan Punyakal, Pongal, Maghe Sankranti and Makar Sankranti will be celebrated. Moreover, the Maharashtra government has declared January 15 as a public holiday due to the local body elections. This holiday has been declared under Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. This holiday will affect all the 29 municipal corporations of the state including Mumbai. However, no official notification has been issued by RBI for Maharashtra yet, hence the situation is not completely clear whether banks will remain closed or not.
