Dhaka/New Delhi. A few days after the death of Bangladeshi student leader Sharif Usman Hadi in Dhaka, his brother Omar Hadi has put the Yunus government in the dock. Omar has accused a faction of the Mohammed Yunus-led interim government of plotting to assassinate Osman Hadi in a bid to derail national elections scheduled for February.

Omar Hadi’s allegation – Yunus got his brother murdered

Sharif Omar Hadi, brother of Osman Hadi, targeted the Yunus government at a protest meeting in Shahbag, Dhaka. Making major allegations against the interim government led by Nobel laureate Yunus, Omar said, “You got Usman Hadi murdered and now you are trying to postpone the elections by making it an issue, so that you yourself can remain in power for a long time.

…then Yunus will also have to flee from Bangladesh

Osman Hadi’s brother Omar said, Bhaijaan wanted the national elections to be held by February 2026. Now the authorities should ensure the hearing as soon as possible, so that there is no hindrance of any kind in the election environment. Along with this, he demanded that the trial of the murderers should be ensured as soon as possible, so that the election atmosphere is not spoiled. The government has failed to show us any visible progress. If Usman Hadi does not get justice, then one day you too will have to flee Bangladesh.

Umar told why his brother was murdered

Omar alleged that his brother was killed because he did not bow down to any agency or “foreign masters”. According to a report in The Daily Star, Inquilab Manch member secretary Abdullah Al Jaber alleged that the killing of Usman Hadi is part of a deeper conspiracy to destroy the achievements of the July uprising and destroy the sovereignty of Bangladesh. He said that international intelligence agencies and “fascist collaborators” working inside the country were involved in Osman’s assassination. Jaber also demanded that the government should present the killers before the public through an international investigation within a stipulated time, failing which they would intensify the protests.

Who was Sharif Osman Hadi?

Sharif Osman Hadi was the spokesman for Inquilab Manch, an organization born out of the July 2024 uprising. Due to this movement, former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina had to step down from power. Usman Hadi was shot in the head by an unknown assailant in Dhaka on 12 December, after which he was airlifted to Singapore, where he died during treatment on 18 December. Osman Hadi’s assassination led to violent protests against Hindus in Bangladesh, in which a mob beat 27-year-old Dipu Chandra Das to death and later stripped his body and burned it after tying it to a tree.
