Bangladesh Mob Lynching: Why was Hindu laborer Dipu Chandra Das killed? False blasphemous rumors and social media videos spread the shameful cruelty of humanity. Now 12 arrested, when will justice be done?
Bangladesh Hindu Worker Lynching News: 28 year old Hindu factory worker Dipu Chandra Das was brutally beaten to death by a mob in Mymensingh district of Bangladesh. The incident occurred on the night of 18 December, when rumors spread that Deepu had made an anti-Islam post on social media. But investigation proved that it was false news. Deepu’s brother Apu told how that night a mob of 140 people brutally beat his brother with bamboo sticks, punches and kicks. Apu said, “Even animals are not treated like what happened to my brother.” The mob took Deepu’s body to the roadside, hung it on a tree and set it on fire. The violent video went viral on social media.
Are social media rumors becoming a threat to humanity?
False news spreading on social media took the life of an innocent laborer. This incident highlights the seriousness of religious extremism and mob violence in Bangladesh. Police have arrested 12 people so far and are likely to make more arrests based on digital evidence.
Family’s pain and the path to justice
Apu told that the family did not get respect even during the last rites of his brother’s body. “We were forced to immediately take the body to the crematorium, leaving our elderly parents heartbroken.” He said he hoped for justice, but found it difficult to believe after the mob showed so much brutality so easily.
Is humanity being lost?
Dipu’s case shows how rumours, false information and mob violence can become a threat to life and society. False news spreading on social media often targets innocent people. Now the question arises whether the government and police will be able to take effective steps in such cases and to what extent investigation of digital networks can bring them justice. This painful incident has shaken the whole world. This is not just a problem of Bangladesh, but a warning to all those countries where social media rumors can become a threat to life and humanity.
