Bangladesh Cricket Board Approves Player Participation In PSL Amid Pakistan-Afghanistan Tensions

A senior Bangladeshi government official confirmed on Monday that national cricketers have been cleared to travel to the Pakistan Super League after receiving full security clearance.

The Bangladesh Cricket Board had earlier emphasized the need for official clearance due to regional security concerns before allowing players to participate.

Officials from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad were consulted before granting permission for the players to travel. According to a report by Cricbuzz, the Bangladesh High Commission assured that adequate safety measures are in place in Pakistan, with matches scheduled in secure venues like Lahore and Karachi.

“Please be informed that both Pakistan and Afghanistan have declared ceasefire before Eid-ul Azha. It is expected that the ceasefire will sustain for time being. The venues for PSL matches are selected in Lahore and Karachi which are safe enough. Yesterday Pakistan Cricket Control Board announced that there would be no public gathering at the stadium. Concerned authority of Pakistan are committed to ensure safety and security of the cricketers,” the letter states.

“Under these circumstances, the Mission recommends that Bangladeshi cricketers can participate at the PSL matches,” it added.

The development comes after the Bangladesh Cricket Board had earlier maintained that the government approval was mandatory for players to participate in the Pakistan Super League, given the prevailing regional tensions. However, shortly after the clarification, four Bangladeshi cricketers departed for Pakistan, sparking questions about whether they had travelled without official clearance.

A senior government official later addressed the situation, confirming that proper permissions had been granted. Speaking to Cricbuzz, the official said consultations were held with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which then coordinated with the Bangladesh High Commission in Islamabad. Following assurances regarding player safety, the government approved their participation in the PSL.
