Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who led the Bangladesh ODI side for just over a year, has been replaced as captain by Litton Das. The decision was made shortly after Bangladesh lost the ODI series against Zimbabwe earlier this month, leaving Litton in control of the white-ball teams in both formats.
However, Najmul Hossain Shanto will continue his role and remain the Test captain of his side.
Litton Das Replaces Mehidy Hasan Miraz
As Bangladesh starts getting ready for the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup next year, veteran wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das has been named the team’s new ODI captain. After Bangladesh’s 2-1 ODI series loss to Zimbabwe earlier this month, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who had been in charge of the team since June 2025, was replaced by the former Kolkata Knight Riders player.
The Tigers won 10 games and lost 9 out of 20 under Miraz’s leadership. Das, who is already in charge of Bangladesh in the T20Is, is now in charge of the ODI format as well. He has three victories out of seven in the 50-over format and has previously captained the ODI team.
Tamim Iqbal On Appointment
BCB President Tamim Iqbal made the announcement following a meeting of the BCB Board of Directors today (29 July) at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Mirpur. According to Tamim, the board has chosen to cut the number of captains across formats from three to two, with Litton leading the ODI team.
“We previously had three captains for the three formats. I believe we should have two captains, and the board shares that view,” Tamim told reporters after the meeting.
He disclosed that prior to making the change, the board conferred with Miraz.
“Miraz has been a successful captain, winning four out of five series. But we are accustomed to seeing him perform consistently, and recently he hasn’t been at his best, particularly with the bat,” Tamim said.
The president of the BCB expressed optimism that by relieving Miraz of his leadership, he would be able to return to his form.
“I spoke to Miraz and explained the reasons behind the decision. He understood our position, and after receiving agreement from both sides, we finalised the appointment,” he added.
