Ban on torn jeans and sleeveless in offices, Karnataka government’s circular to make employees ‘civilized’. Karnataka Government Issues New Dress Code For Employees

The Karnataka government has issued a circular for its employees, asking them to dress appropriately in the office. It has been said in the circular that coming to office wearing clothes like torn jeans and sleeveless tarnishes the image of the government.

Bengaluru: The Congress-led Karnataka government has issued a circular asking state government employees to wear “decent” clothes. Also, a warning has been given not to wear such clothes which tarnish the image of the government. This circular has been sent to the heads of different departments, Deputy Commissioners, Chief Minister’s Office, Additional Chief Secretary, Principal Secretary, Secretaries and Chief Executive Officers of District Panchayat. The Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (DPAR) has made it clear what clothes should not be worn.

The circular said that DPAR has received complaints from common people and organizations that some employees in government offices do not wear proper clothes. It has also been made clear in the letter that the employees have been asked to wear proper clothes earlier also, but many people are not following these instructions.

Employees come dressed like college students

Officials said that unlike corporate offices, there is no dress code for government employees. Still, some young employees come dressed like college students, which is not good. They wear torn jeans, sleeveless and very tight clothes. Karnataka State Government Employees Association President C.S. Shadakshari has welcomed this step. He said that one’s attire should not cause trouble to others and decorum should be maintained in government offices.

What is there in the circular…

The circular also said that the government has started a movement register and a cash declaration register. Government employees will have to make entries in these registers while coming and going to the office. But many people are not following this rule. The employee will have to reach office by 10:10 am and remain at his/her seat till the completion of work. If they are going out for any government work, then it will have to be mentioned in the register. It has also been clarified that before coming to the office and while going out, they will have to register the amount present in their purse or pocket in the cash register.
