Baisakhi is celebrated every year on the day of Aries Sankranti. According to astrological calculations, on the day of Aries Sankranti, the Sun enters its exalted sign Aries. This year Baisakhi will be celebrated on 14th April. On this day, the Sun will enter Aries at 09:38 am.
Why is Baisakhi celebrated?
By the time of Baisakhi the Rabi crop is ripe and ready. On this day farmers thank God and sing and dance. The festival of Baisakhi is also considered important for the Sikh community because on this day in the year 1699, the 10th Guru of the Sikhs, Guru Gobind Singh Ji, established the Khalsa Panth. Guru Gobind Singh Ji had united Sikhism to fight against oppression.
He called a meeting at Anandpur Sahib and selected five people who sacrificed their lives for the protection of religion and humanity. These five people are called ‘Panj Pyare’.
