New Delhi: With the arrival of the monsoon, seasonal illnesses like fever, cough, cold and stomach infections tend to rise due to the rapid growth of bacteria and viruses. Yoga guru Baba Ramdev has suggested simple Ayurvedic remedies to help people stay healthy during this season.
In a video shared on his Instagram account, Baba Ramdev highlighted that respiratory infections and viral fevers become particularly common during the rainy months. He recommended drinking liquorice (mulethi) water as an effective remedy for cough and cold. According to him, mulethi contains a compound called glycyrrhizin, known for its antiviral properties. It is also a rich source of antioxidants, minerals, calcium, vitamin E and B-complex nutrients, which help boost immunity.

For monsoon season related illness
For those already suffering from seasonal illnesses, Baba Ramdev advised dietary changes. He suggested avoiding grains for four to five days and instead consuming roasted chickpeas, dates, pomegranate, papaya, or boiled apple. Such a light diet, he claimed, can bring noticeable recovery within a week, whether from fever, cough or cold.
Decoction to give relief from fever
He further recommended a herbal decoction (kadha) to combat fever during the monsoon. The kadha should be prepared using giloy, basil leaves, ginger, cloves and black pepper. Drinking this, he said, helps reduce fever and restores strength naturally.
Baba Ramdev, who has long advocated Ayurveda and yoga through his Patanjali brand and social media platforms, continues to promote natural remedies for common ailments. His latest advice aims at preventing infections during the rainy season, which often brings along risks of food poisoning, fungal infections and viral outbreaks.
