The release of Ayushmann Khurrana-starrer ‘Udta Teer’ has been postponed, with the film now set to arrive in cinemas on October 23 instead of its earlier scheduled date of October 9.
The makers announced the revised release date on Friday, unveiling a new poster for the film. The decision is aimed at securing a clearer theatrical window and allowing the film a stronger run at the box office amid a crowded release calendar.
The shift is also intended to attract better audience footfall after films such as ‘Drishyam: The Conclusion’ and ‘The Vvaan: Force of the Forrest’ complete their theatrical runs.
‘Udta Teer’ blends patriotism with comedy, with Suhail Nayyar reportedly playing a negative character. Khurrana essays Bilal Ahmed, a Pakistani spy who suffers memory loss and begins to believe that he is Indian, eventually fighting for India.
Speaking to IANS earlier, Khurrana had described the film as a distinctive story and called it India’s first patriotic comedy.
“My film ‘Udta Teer’ is releasing on October 9. It is a very different story. I want to say that it is India’s first patriotic comedy where I become a Pakistani spy and lose my memory in India,” he had said.
“My character in the film starts fighting for India. So in a way, he remembers patriotism, but he forgets which country it is. So it’s a very beautiful story,” the actor added.
Khurrana also spoke about what attracted him to the project, highlighting the vision of director Akash.
“Every new director brings a different energy to the set. With ‘Udta Teer’ what drew me in was not just the genre, but the world Akash had created,” he said.
“It is rare to find a script that can be chaotic, funny, emotional and rooted in a larger idea at the same time. I wanted to surrender to that vision and allow the character to take me somewhere unexpected,” he added.
With its revised release date, ‘Udta Teer’ is now scheduled to open in theatres on October 23.
