20-year-old Ayush Shetty stunned World No. 9 and tournament top seed Chou Tien-Chen in a thrilling semifinal, booking his maiden BWF World Tour final appearance. After narrowly dropping the opening game 21-23, Ayush displayed maturity beyond his years, controlling the rallies and using sharp net play to win the next two games 21-15, 21-14 in a match that lasted 67 minutes.

The young Indian, who had previously finished third at the Orleans Masters earlier this year, showed immense composure under pressure, outplaying the seasoned Taiwanese star with his relentless attacking game in the decider. Just last month, he fell in straight games to Tien-Chen in Taipei, and now, fast-forward to the US Open 2025, he flipped the script and defeated Tien-Chen in a thrilling three-game battle to reach his maiden BWF World Tour final.
On the women’s side, 16-year-old Tanvi continued her dream run by defeating Ukraine’s seventh seed Polina Buhrova 21-14, 21-16 to reach the final, becoming the youngest Indian ever to enter a BWF World Tour final. Tanvi is currently ranked World No.66, and her performance in Iowa has been a statement of intent, having already defeated second seed Thuy Linh Nguyen and former Junior World Champion Pitchamon Opatniputh earlier in the tournament.

A trainee at the BAI’s National Centre of Excellence in Guwahati, Tanvi’s court coverage and fearless shot-making have made her one of India’s most promising young talents.
Tanvi will next face top seed Beiwen Zhang of the USA in the final, where a win would etch her name in history as the youngest Indian to claim a BWF World Tour title. Meanwhile, Ayush will meet Canada’s third-seeded Brian Yang, hoping to cap off his breakthrough week with the trophy.
