Ayush Shetty beaten in Badminton Asia Championships final

New Delhi: Ayush Shetty went down 21-8, 21-10 in his men’s singles Badminton Asia Championships final against World No. 2 Shi Yu Qi in Ningbo, China, on Sunday.

The World No.25 was vying to be the first Indian to win the singles gold medal of the tournament since Dinesh Khanna since 1965.

But in the final at the Ningbo Olympic Sports Center Gymnasium, Ningbo Shetty was no match for the powerful smashes and superior court coverage of his Chinese opponent.

Shetty had earlier lost both his head-to-head meeting with the current world champion and never looked threatening in the title round, going down in 41 minutes.

In the women’s singles section, World No. 1 An Se Young won the crown with a 21-12, 17-21, 21-18 victiry over second ranked Wang Zhi Yi.

The Korean took an hour and 40 minutes to win against her Chinese opponent and secure the championship crown.
