New Delhi: India U19 captain Ayush Mhatre scripted history on Monday as he smashed the fastest-ever century in youth Test cricket. His ton came during a dramatic final day chase when he scored hundred in just 64 balls against England.
The knock came on during the second Youth Test when India was chasing a massive target of 355-runs and the opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi got dismissed for a golden duck. The skipper took the charge and launched a stunning comeback scoring 128 in 80 balls including 13 fours and three sixes. But his efforts were ruined by rain leading to a draw in Chelmsford.
This was Mhatre’s second century after 102 runs knock in the first Youth Test at Beckenham and not just that he slammed multiple records as he led his side from the front.

Breaks Brendon McCullum long standing record
With this knock Mhatre ended the series with 340 runs which is the most by any player, making him the first ever player in the world to score over 300 runs in a Youth Test series at a strike rate of 100+. The record for the best strike rate in the Youth Test series was held by Brendon McCullum. Former New Zealand cricketer achieved this feat back in the 2000/01 series against South Africa U19 where he scored 455 runs at a strike rate of 95.58.
Best strike rate in Youth Test Series

Though his ton broke multiple records, his knock went in vain as rain saw the game being drawn. They were at 226-2 in the 27th over and needed just 120 more runs in 38 overs to seal the victory. For England, Ralphie Albert was the highest wicket taker in the second innings as he got four to his name. Ben Mayes and Alex Green also took one wicket each.
