The Ayurvedic diet is all about eating clean and healthy so that your body gets the nourishment it needs and flourishes. Practised for centuries, Ayurveda has been promoting healthy living and eating, based on how your body reacts to food.
And so, there are a few ways that you can follow to add nourishment and remove toxins that get accumulated in the body by eating certain foods.
Practitioners of the Ayurvedic diet say toxins – from the environment – are harmful and slowly and silently affect the metabolism and functioning of the vital body organs, leading to inflammation, which causes deadly diseases like cancers.
Hence, it is important to know which food combinations you must avoid that can cause any kind of discomfort, complications, and ailments. Experts say when you combine food items, their energies overload the digestive fire and lead to indigestion, bloating, nausea, and even gas in the body.
Food combos you must avoid in Ayurveda
According to Ayurveda, you must avoid these foods that can make you sick:
Banana and milk
Both bananas and milk, if they were standalone, are among the best foods for the digestion and nourishment of your body. They regulate and boost your gut health, digestion, and metabolism, promoting a healthy weight loss. However, if you take them together as a banana shake, the combination produces harmful toxins that can cause cough, cold, allergy, and even congestion.
While a banana is sour and milk is sweet, the digestive system goes into an imbalance after their consumption.
Cheese and curd
Both are by-products of milk, but the making process differs, and so, combining the two leads to a lot of indigestion, heartburn, and bloating.
Ayurveda says that when you combine curd and cheese together and consume them, they increase the Kapha in your body, and aggravated Kapha leads to blockage and is not good for your overall health in the long run.
Watermelon with apples
So when you plan to go on a fruit diet, you must first do some research on what kind of fruits can be paired together for consumption. Ayurveda advises refraining from combining watermelon with any other fruits. According to experts, since melons have a high water content, they might not get digested properly when combined with heavy and fibre-loaded fruits like apples.
Fruits and vegetables
In Ayurveda, it is not advised to combine fruits with vegetables because the high sugar content of fruits can slow down the process of digestion of low-calorie vegetables.
Eggs with potatoes
Eggs are a powerhouse of protein, and potatoes are starchy. And so, never combine these two since starch is loaded with carbohydrates that slow down the process of protein absorption in the body, causing indigestion and a feeling of bloating.
