Long before Awarapan 2 became a reality, writer Bilal Siddiqi had already expressed his admiration for Emraan Hashmi and the actor’s work. In a post shared on X in June 2017, he called Awarapan one of his favourite films and described it as his favourite Emraan Hashmi film.
Nearly nine years later, he reshared his old post as he became part of Awarapan 2. Sharing the throwback post, the writer pointed out the rather remarkable coincidence himself. He wrote, “Had posted this back in 2017. And now I’m part of the sequel. Manifestation, I guess.”

Siddiqui has been a longtime admirer of the 2007 film and described returning to its world as a dream come true. Asper Bollywood Hungama, he recalled watching Awarapan in school and being drawn to ’s performance, storytelling and music, particularly songs like Toh Phir Aao and Tera Mera Rishta. Aware of the original’s cult status, he said the sequel needed to preserve its emotional essence while telling a fresh story.

According to Siddiqui, producer Vishesh Bhatt wanted the sequel to retain the original’s themes of angst, redemption, action, love and devotion while giving them a new narrative. The team focused on taking Shivam Pandit’s story forward rather than simply using the Awarapan title. After months of discussions involving Siddiqui, Bhatt, Hashmi and director Nitin Kakkar, they developed a story that organically continues Shivam’s journey, with the character facing another significant battle.
Meanwhile, directed by Nitin Kakkar, sees Emraan Hashmi reprise his role as Shivam Pandit, the troubled hitman from the 2007 cult classic. The sequel picks up with a startling revelation: Shivam survived the shootout that was believed to have ended his story. Still carrying the weight of Aaliyah’s death, he is consumed by grief while struggling to find a way forward. The film will hit theatres on August 14, 2026.
