New Delhi: On New Year’s Eve, several major cities like Delhi, Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai and Hyderabad have announced extensive traffic advisory and security measures for New Year’s Eve on Wednesday.
To manage a large crowd, the authorities have deployed police through the night and also in the early hours of January 1. The authorities are focusing more on public safety by taking some measures like road closures, traffic diversions and restricted vehicle zones at hot public zones to ensure the smooth celebration across cities.
Delhi
The Delhi Traffic Police has issued an advisory, targeting traffic diversion, special parking arrangements in Connaught Place and several surrounding areas. The effect will begin from 7 pm local time on December 31, and the effect will run until the celebration concluded.
“In anticipation of heavy crowds in Connaught Place and surrounding areas on the occasion of New Year–2026, the Delhi Traffic Police has made special traffic arrangements,” Delhi Traffic Police on their social media.
Along with CP, Saket is also included in the advisory and with the authorities aiming for public safety, they would also want the public to cooperate with police personnel and follow posted detours.
TRAFFIC ADVISORY
In connection with Ekadashi & New Year celebrations (31.12.2025 & 01.01.2026) at Khatu Shyam Delhi Dham Mandir, heavy footfall of devotees is expected. Traffic movement on NH-44 and adjoining roads is likely to remain slow and congested.

Mumbai
Mumbai officials deployed more than 17,000 police personnel to take care of the large gathering at the Gateway of India, Marine Drive, Girgaon Chowpatty, Bandra Bandstand, Juhu, Versova beaches.
“With New Year’s Eve celebrations underway across Mumbai and the suburbs, police checking has been strengthened to maintain law and order.” Mumbai Police wrote on their social media.
Mumbai’s metro line 3 (Aqua line) also extended its service from 10:30 pm on December 31 to 5:55 am on January 1.
