Australian Open: Vigorous Djokovic beats Sinner in epic five-setter to set final showdown vs Alcaraz

New Delhi: Serbian giant Novak Djokovic rolled back the years as he pushed himself to the limits to book his 11th Australian Open final berth after an epic five-set victory over world no. 2 Jannik Sinner in the men’s singles semifinal. Djokovic showcased all the resilience he had in his kitty to push the Italian Sinner to the fifth set and book a final showdown against Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

Earlier in the day, Alcaraz overcame his leg issues to beat Alexander Zverev in another epic five-set semifinal clash to reach the final. With this sensational victory, the Serbian ace has kept all the hopes alive for a record 25th Grand Slam title.

Defying all the odds at the age of 38, the 10-time Australian Open winner knocked out the reigning champion 3-6, 6-3, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 at the Rod Laver Arena, in front of a crowd that had come to the edge of their seats while witnessing a blockbuster contest.

World No. 2 Sinner won the first and third sets, but World No. 4 Djokovic showed class and resilience time and again to make a comeback to register his first victory over Sinner in more than two years.
