Dhanteras Puja 2025: Dhanteras is celebrated every year on the Trayodashi date of Krishna Paksha of Kartik month. This year this festival will be celebrated on 18 October 2025 i.e. Saturday. Dhanteras is considered a symbol of wealth, health and prosperity. It is believed that Lord Dhanvantari, Mother Lakshmi and Kuber Dev are worshiped on this day. This ensures happiness and prosperity in the house throughout the year.
According to the scriptures and astrology, buying gold and silver, utensils, brooms, idols of Lakshmi-Ganesh and Shriyantra or metal coins on this day brings prosperity and auspicious results throughout the year. Actually, gold and silver are symbols of Lakshmi and are factors of increase in wealth, while utensils are considered a symbol of food and prosperity in the house. The broom has been said to remove poverty and invite Goddess Lakshmi. At the same time, the idol of Lakshmi-Ganesh is bought for Diwali worship and Shriyantra or metal coins create chances of gaining wealth.
Apart from this, lamp or earthen lamp, picture of Gauri-Ganesh, Kuber Yantra or brass Kalash, Tulsi plant and new Jholi (bag for keeping money) can be purchased. However, it should be kept in mind that while buying any utensil or item, do not keep it empty, fill it with some grains or coins.
Chant this mantra on Dhanteras
According to the legend, at the time of churning of the ocean, Lord Dhanvantari appeared with the nectar pot. For this reason this day is also called Dhanvantari Jayanti. It is believed that donation or purchase of metal made on this day brings Goddess Lakshmi to the house. Lord Dhanvantari, Mother Lakshmi and Kuber Dev are worshiped in the evening. During this, a lamp is lit and kept at the main entrance of the house and the mantra “Om Namo Bhagwate Dhanvantarye” is chanted. Also, donating lamps, oil or grains to the needy on this day is considered especially virtuous.
