Glenn Maxwell is on the brink of joining an exclusive group of cricketers in T20I history as Australia prepare for the third and final match of their series against South Africa in Cairns on Saturday, August 16. The dynamic all-rounder needs just one wicket to become the first Australian to reach the double of 2,500 runs and 50 wickets in T20Is.
Bangladesh’s Shakib Al Hasan, Malaysia’s Virandeep Singh, and Pakistan’s Mohammad Hafeez are the ones to have achieved the feat in Men’s T20Is. Amongst them, Shakib is the only player with 2500 runs and 100 wickets in the shortest format of international cricket.

Glenn Maxwell’s performance in South Africa T20Is
Maxwell has experienced mixed fortunes in the series against the Proteas. In the first T20I on August 10 in Darwin, he delivered a match-defining performance – taking a spectacular boundary catch to dismiss Ryan Rickelton for 71 off 55 balls, a pivotal moment in Australia’s 17-run victory. With the ball, he bowled four overs for 29 runs and claimed one wicket.
In the second T20I on August 12, also in Darwin, his bowling proved costly, conceding 42 runs in four overs without a wicket, while he managed 16 off 10 balls with the bat before being dismissed.
